The “Master Blaster” Sachin Tendulkar has retired from the game of cricket, but his name’s chants are still heard in the stadium, especially in Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai). Currently, when India played the third T20I against West Indies in Mumbai, the stadium was echoing with the name of “Sachin-Sachin”.

The former Indian cricketer reminds who first started the rhythm of chanting his name. Sachin said that his mother was the first to call his name in the same tempo when he didn’t listen to her while busy playing the cricket.

“Do you know who started ‘Sachin…Sachin’? My mother. When I was 5 or so and I was playing downstairs with my friends in front of our building, after 7.30 or so when the mother wanted me home and I did not want to leave the playground. That’s when she used to stand in the balcony and go like.. Sachin…Sachin..you need to come now,” Sachin told India Today.

“During my playing days, I was superstitious and I did not want to count my runs. The moment you start counting the runs they don’t come to you. Same thing with ‘Sachin…Sachin’. Don’t count just soak in whatever it is. The atmosphere was unbelievable. That is what I enjoy. It is a blessing. However much I thank people, it is never enough,” said Sachin.

Sachin further added that he was emotional when his mother first time came to see him live in the ground during his last Test match at Wankhede Stadium against West Indies.
