India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has wished the India women’s cricket team ahead of the grand finale of the ICC women’s T20 World Cup 2020. India has first time reached the finals of the tournament. The former cricketer, who himself has lifted the 2011 World Cup title, shared a special message for the cricketers.
India had entered the finals without playing a ball in the semi-final as the match was washed out. As there was no reserve day, India qualified for the finale as per the rules that state the team finishing higher in the group stages fixtures will progress further.
Sachin Tendulkar’s special message ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup:
Tendulkar very well knows the pressure when it comes to the final of the World Cup. He was part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning campaign. The Master Blaster himself wants the women’s team to enjoy the finale and bring the trophy home.
“Just live in the moment and play the finals. I was there next to the trophy when I was in Australia and few members of our women’s team were there with me. I told them that it would be nice to see you with the trophy back in India,” he said.
“My message to them would be to go out and give your best. I would tell them to not take any pressure. They don’t need to spend time with the outside world. I have watched their performances and they have inspired so many youngsters,” the Master Blaster added.
“It is about bringing laurels to our nation, so many athletes in different fields have brought laurels to our nation, this would be another one. Go and enjoy yourself.”
On March 8, India and Australia will compete with each other at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), to lift the trophy. The hosts had made it to the sixth finale while India will be playing for the first time.
