Harmanpreet Kaur’s stunning 171-run knock in the ongoing semi final of the Women’s World Cup against Australia is arguably the greatest innings by an Indian in a knockout World Cup match. India were reeling at 101 for 3 after 25 overs and had just 17 overs to post a good total against the defending champions. And with their in-form captain Mithali Raj already back in the hut, India’s middle-order batswomen faced a Herculean task. However, it was just a one woman show after Mithali’s departure as Harmanpreet stunned the reigning world champions with some unbelievable power hitting.
With the pitch not being easy to bat on, Harmanpreet reached her fifty off 64 balls but changed gears soon and continued the assault till the last over of the innings that was reduced to 42 overs. She took just 26 balls to score her next fifty to reach her third ODI century off just 90 balls. The 28-year old then slammed 71 runs off the next 25 balls to finish on 171 off just 115 deliveries. Her stunning knock was studded with a staggering 20 fours and 7 sixes.
The Punjab-born batswoman has been showered with praise from all over and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has also joined the bandwagon. The former India batsman took to Twitter to praise Harmanpreet and wished the Women in Blue to win the game.
“Incredible batting by @ImHarmanpreet! Come on India- Let’s go out and win the second half of the game as well. #AUSvIND #WWC17 #WomenInBlue,” the Master Blaster tweeted.
