Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar feels that it was the unfortunate but right step to reschedule the Road Safety World Series 2020.

It is the inaugural season of Road Safety World Series which was initially scheduled to run from 7th March to 22nd March 2020 in Maharashtra. This tournament has been organised to create awareness about road safety. Five ICC Full Members were playing in this tournament (India Legends, South Africa Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, Australia Legends and West Indies Legends) where their legendary international cricketers were serving for their respective sides.

While the tournament has attracted the cricket fans hugely, the coronavirus has affected to run this tournament smoothly. Out of the 11 matches, only four games have been played before the tournament postponement.

Observing the present serious condition in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Indian government has suspended most of the visas till 15th April.  Also, the Sports Ministry has advised organising the unavoidable events without the spectators. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also characterised it as a pandemic.

Initially, the organisers of the Road Safety World Series thought to organise the remaining matches at DY Patil Stadium (Mumbai) behind the closed door. But they ultimately have decided to postpone it. However, they have also clarified that the remaining games of this tournament will be organised later.

He said, “The rescheduling of this series, held to create awareness about Road Safety, is unfortunate yet the right step. We all hope and pray that the spread of novel coronavirus is contained.”

In fact, the coronavirus has affected most of the cricket events in the world, just like the other sports. In India, the last day of the Ranji Trophy 2019/20 final was played behind the close door while India vs South Africa ODI series and the beginning of the IPL 2020 has been postponed.
