Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar along with former greats Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were given the responsibility to select the new head coach for Team India who will also be accompanied by Sanjay Jagdale , a senior BCCI offical.
However, since Sachin Tendulkar was not available in the country right now, the player has decided to help the board in selecting the coach using video conference facilities.
BCCI has received an unbelievable 57 applications for the head coach job which were later trimmed to 21 applications as they satisfy the criteria specified by the board.
The aforementioned committee were given the responsibility to pick the best available person from the received applications.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has added that Sachin Tendulkar, who is out of the country, “has confirmed his availability and when required through video conference facilities,” in a statement released on Thursday.
“The said committee… will process and scrutinise all the applications, conduct interviews and seek presentations from candidates as the committee deems fit,” said BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke in the statement.
The committee can also review any of the 57 candidates if they feel that one of the trimmed candidates could be looked into.
“Should the committee desire to look at all the 57 applications as well, the said will be made available to them,” the statement added.
The committee has exactly one week to pick out the head coach for Team India as they have to submit the report by June 22 and an official announcement about the appointment of new coach is speculated to be on June 24.
Some of the big Indian names like Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Pail, Venkatesh Prasad along with some high profile foreign coaches likes Stephen Fleming, Jason Gillespie are all in the race to procure one of the most coveted jobs in cricket.
The Indian cricket team had a vacant head coach position since 2015 world cup. However, Ravi Shastri has played the role of Team driector till 2016 T20 World cup.
