Buoyed by the success in domestic circuit, former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt is eyeing a return to the international cricket. The southpaw, playing his first tournament after serving the ban, scored two centuries in Quaid-e-Azam trophy final to help his team win their maiden title.

Playing for Water and Development Authority (WAPDA), the 32-year-old scored 125 and 105 not out against Habib Bank in the decider. His century helped WAPDA draw the match with 198-3, after being given an improbable target of 444 to win on the fifth day. Butt’s team clinched the title on the basis of a first innings lead.

Speaking to the media, Butt said:“I have knocked the door (of international cricket) very hard and hope this will pave my way for return to (the) Pakistan team.”

“I want to keep myself fit and keep my form alive. I am trying my best with the best of my intention. I have a wish and always want to be in every squad. I have the capacity but that is something the selectors have to tell and decide,” he added.

Butt, along with Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, was convicted of spot-fixing in 2011 and banned for five years by the ICC. The ban ended in September this year and as a result, Butt and Asif resumed playing in domestic cricket. However, unlike Amir, who made his return to international cricket earlier this year, the duo have not been considered for national selections yet.

“I hope the bad days are over,” said Butt.

“I have gone through difficult times but my wife, my family and friends supported me,” he added.

Butt finished the tournament with 741 runs including four hundreds in the ten matches and The Dawn has reported that player might be considered for Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies in March-April next year where they will play four Tests, three ODIs and two Twenty20 internationals.
