Samuels retained for Pakistan Test series

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), on Monday, announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan which will be played in U.A.E. The selectors have retained 14 out of 15 players that played in the Test series against India, Jomel Warrican being the only addition to the squad. Warrican last played a Test match against Australia at Sydney which ended in a draw after West Indies captain Jason Holder refused to accept the offer of Australian captain Steve Smith.

Warrican was also part of the WICB President XI squad that played a practice game against India at West Indies. The rest of 14 members are same which played Test match against India.

The young fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who troubled Indian batsmen in the third Test match, has retained his spot in the Test team. He was recently inducted into the ODI team as well which shows that selectors are having high expectations from him which is the reason why the fast bowler have been elevated from under 19 level to all formats of the game.

Roston Chase, who played a crucial role in the second Test match against India is also a member of the team, all-rounder will again have a responsibility to rescue the team with his all-round show.

Interestingly, the selectors have retained Marlon Samuels for the Pakistan fixtures which come as a surprise as at one stage he was on verge of being dropped from the team in Test series against India itself but somehow managed to retain his place. Selectors have given him another chance which can also be the last one for him if he fails to capitalise on this one.

Before the start of this meeting, all eyes were on selectors as a few days back Chris Gayle showed his desire to play in Test cricket again but looks like his name was not even considered for selection.

The three-match Test series will kick off on October 13 from Dubai. The first Test will be a day-night fixture that will be played with a pink ball, thus making both these team just second team to play a pink ball Test match.

The second Test will be played in Abu Dhabi from October 21 and West Indies will put an end to their U.A.E. tour in Sharjah by participating in the third and the final Test match that will be played from October 30.

West Indies squad for the Test series is as follows –

Jason Holder (c), Kraigg Brathwaite, Leon Johnson, Alzarri Joseph, Marlon Samuels, Jomel Warrican, Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope.
