After increasing the retainer and match fees amount of the players, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to increase the fees of batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar by 50 per cent.
The BCCI, on Wednesday (March 22), doubled the annual retainer fee for the India cricketers in central contracts and also increased the match fee. And as per reports, they are now all set to hike the fees of the coaching staff.
Bangar and Sridhar joined the Indian team in 2014 and had till now been earning Rs 10 lakh per month. The duo had been reportedly demanding a pay hike for quite some time now but nothing positive came out. They even met former BCCI president Anurag Thakur during the England Test series in November 2016. They had also asked the board to bring in contracts for the support staff. However, the former BCCI officials did not accept the staffers’ demand.
The matter was then taken into consideration by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri who came up with a new proposal of a 25 per cent hike. However, the proposal was turned down by Bangar and Sridhar who stated that they had been promised a 100% pay raise by the former BCCI office bearers.
The matter was finally taken up by the Supreme Court- appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) who, on Thursday (March 25), decided to increase the staffers’ fees by 50 per cent.
“There are no contracts for the support staff and their salaries had not been increased for the past two years. If they can double the pay in the players’ annual contracts, the COA felt that the support staff too deserved at least a 50 per cent hike,” a source in the board said.
Meanwhile, the hike will see Bangar and Sridhar earn approximately Rs 15 lakh each per month.
