Sanjay Bangar Backs Ambati Rayudu to Earn India Call Up If he Passes Yo-Yo Test
Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu can still grab a place in the national team, according to batting coach, Sanjay Bangar.
The talented batsman made the most out of IPL this summer and was amongst the highest run-scorers of the tournament.
It had helped him gain a place in the ODI team after almost two years. But his fitness had become the problem for Rayudu. He failed the most talked about Yo-Yo test and eventually got dropped from the squad for England series.
However, all might not be the end for Rayudu, as he can still eye a comeback in the Indian team.
The addition of Ambati Rayudu would further solidify Indian batting. He is a viable option for the selectors ahead of World Cup next summer. But to get back into the team, he should first prove his fitness and pass the Yo-Yo test at NCA, Bengaluru.
Considering the massive talent that Ambati Rayudu possesses, Sanjay Bangar backed him to earn a place in the Indian team. But the coach has insisted Rayudu should first pass the fitness test.
“We will see the players available, their fitness. As you mentioned, Rayudu. Rayudu is someone who can bat really well in the middle-order. But unfortunately, he could not clear the fitness test. But I am pretty sure, if he passes the fitness test, he could also be a candidate. A lot of spots are open,” Bangar said.
Ambati Rayudu made an impressive 602 runs in IPL 2018 at a staggering strike rate of 149.75. His incredible heroics are one of the main reason for CSK’s title triumph on their return.
India’s No.4 conundrum continues
Despite having so much talent in the batting lineup, India are yet to find a suitable batsman for the crucial No.4 position.
Ever since Yuvraj Singh had cancer, the spot was open and still after seven years it remains vacant for potential suitors.
Although India tried as many as 11 players since the 2015 World Cup at No.4, none of them clicked.
KL Rahul was very impressive at No.3 during the T20I series but have not stamped his authority at No.4 during the ODI series. However, if Indian cannot find a suitable player for the spot, then the classy and matured Ambati Rayudu could return into the fray.
