Sanjay Manjrekar Reveals His 15-Member India’s World Cup Squad, Ambati Rayudu Omitted
With only a few days left for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, we came across the former cricketers and the analysts revealing their squad for the certain teams. The latest to join the bandwagon is the cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, who announced India’s squad by removing Ambati Rayudu from the final Team.
Like any other analyst’s squad, Sanjay Manjrekar’s squad also got quite a few surprising inclusions and exclusions. The major of them has been the axe on Ambati Rayudu, who was once expected to be India’s number 4 batsman in the grand event.
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma to open, Virat Kohli at number 3:
He went with the regular openers of the team Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Though they both looked rusty in the recent last few games against Kiwis and Australia, they both broke the shackles in the 4th ODI game at Mohali.
Meanwhile, he doesn’t want to tinker the batting position of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. He asked Kohli to bat at number 3. Sanjay Manjrekar quoted that Virat Kohli has set the winning culture for the team with his great knocks at that position.
Vijay Shankar at number 4:
Sanjay wants to fill the number 4 slot with the addition of Vijay Shankar to the playing XI. He believes that Shankar got the calibre to take the number 4 position for the team. Manjrekar added that Shankar can 3-4 overs with the ball as well.
MS Dhoni will keep the wickets:
Then he added MS Dhoni to the playing XI, which is an obvious choice. He feels that Dhoni’s presence is a must for the team. Coming to the all-rounder category, Hardik Pandya will take the role while Kedar Jadhav will be the additional benefit.
Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal to see spin quota:
The wrist spinners have made a massive impact on India in the recent past. They will be the key for India’s chances in the upcoming edition of the tournament. The duo also got a decent record in England.
Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah finishes the Playing XI:
Finally, coming to the fast bowling department, he picked Mohammed Shami over Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Sanjay feels that Shami is in a fine form while Bhuvneshwar Kumar couldn’t quite repeat his mojo. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is an obvious choice.
Coming to the 4 additional players to fill the squad, he chose KL Rahul as the backup opener for the team. For the backup wicketkeeping option, he asked Rishabh Pant to join the team. Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the third spinner and the fast bowler respectively.
Here is the squad:
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant
