Finally, Sanju Samson and Manish Pandey got the chance in the third and last T20I match against Sri Lanka at Pune. Both were the benchwarmers in almost all the last home limited-overs series, expect Manish Pandey got one chance earlier Bangladesh. Meanwhile, everyone’s eye was on the wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson who fortunately got the chance in place of Rishabh Pant.

In Pune, Virat Kohli sacrificed his place to give Manish Pandey and Sanju Samson the chance to showcase their talent. Samson came to the field after Dhawan lost his place. The wicketkeeper impressed with his start by striking Lakshan Sandakan for a maximum. He had also a smile in his face after sending the ball to spectators. Indian skipper Virat Kohli also was surprised by the six from youngster’s bat. But, unfortunately, he was out on the very next ball bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga as he urged for the lbw and the umpire lifted the finger.

Samson was livid with himself and walks off the ground with disappointment. He was out for six runs in two balls. He has surely missed a golden opportunity of his career which he got after four years of his debut match but it is not the end.

About the match:

The openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan both scored half-centuries in Pune pitch. The middle-order batsmen could not survive against Sri Lanka. Shreyas Iyer (4), Sanju Samson (6), Virat Kohli (26) and Washington Sundar (0) lost their wickets back to back. Then the partnership of Manish Pandey and Shardul Thakur was admirable. Shardul Thakur struck two sixes, scoring 22* off 8 balls. Manish Pandey played a mature game and scored 31 not out in 18 balls, striking four boundaries.

India set the target of 202 runs which the visitors could not chase down. The bowlers Navdeep Saini (3/28), Jasprit Bumrah (1/5), Shardul Thakur (2/19) and Washington Sunder (2/37) bundled out Sri Lankan for 123 runs.
