Sarfaraz Khan has been ruled out of the upcoming Irani Cup after suffering a finger injury during the DY Patil T20 Cup. The right-handed batsman is currently recuperating at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata where Delhi Capitals are having a training camp ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (2023).
While the BCCI is yet to announce the squad formally for the Irani Cup which will be played between 2021-22 Ranji champions Madhya Pradesh and Rest of India, Sarfaraz Khan was likely to make it to the team after yet another stunning season with the bat.
The prolific run-scorer scored 556 runs in 6 games this season with the help of three centuries and an average of more than 90. Since the 2019-20 season, the Mumbai star has scored a staggering 2970 runs from 26 matches (12 centuries, seven half-centuries) at an average of 106.07. His First-Class average of 79.65 after 54 innings is only second to Don Bradman (95.14).

Sarfaraz Khan suffers finger injury:
Just before the Irani Cup tie and IPL 2023, Sarfaraz Khan has suffered a hairline fracture in his finger. Currently at the Eden Gardens with his Delhi Capitals teammate, he will be hoping to recover soon. As per reports, he suffered the injury while collecting a throw during the DY Patil T20 Cup.
“Sarfaraz suffered the injury on his right finger while doing the keeping duties for DY Patil B in a match during the DY Patil T20 Cup. He was injured while collecting a throw from teammate Yash Dhull. He will be out of action for around 10 days. He is currently recuperating at the Delhi Capitals’ pre-season camp at Kolkata,” The Times of India quoted a source as saying.
Delhi Capitals will be hoping that their middle-order batsman recovers quickly ahead of IPL 2023. The national capital-based outfit have already lost the services of their star batsman Rishabh Pant who will miss the season due to the car accident. In his absence, Australia star David Warner is set to lead the team.
