Indian cricketer Sarfraz Khan is having a tremendous run in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2019-20. The Mumbai batsman scored a triple century and followed it up with a double century recently. With a long-run stand, he has registered the name in the record book. Thus, he has surpassed the former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman in the first-class record for number of runs between the dismissals.
In the last game against Saurashtra, he scored 78 runs on the first day, taking his team from 88/4 to 197/4 before getting out. Though he missed a century, the overall tally of Sarfaraz is 605 runs, eventually gave him a place in the elite list of the batsmen, who scored the most number of runs between two dismissals.
He has surpassed VVS Laxman’s record of 538 runs but failed to make an entry into the impressive top five list.

The list is topped the by another Indian cricketer KC Ibrahim, who scored 709 runs in 1947-48. Apart from Ibrahim, Graeme Hick (645), Vijay Merchant (634), Patsy Hendren (630), S Badrinath (625) and Pankaj Dharmani (608) lie above Sarfaraz on the all-time list.
Here are the top batsmen on the impressive list which includes Sarfaraz Khan:
709 KC Ibrahim 1947/48
645 GA Hick 1990
634 VM Merchant 1941/42
630 EH Hendren 1929/30
625 S Badrinath 2007/08
608 P Dharmani 1999/00
605 SN Khan 2019/20

545 RB Simpson 1959/60
538 VVS Laxman 1997/98
530 VVS Laxman 1999/00

Notably, Sarfaraz had become only the seventh Mumbai batsman to hit a triple hundred in Ranji Trophy in January. He joined an elite list of Mumbai batsmen that include Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Wasim Jaffer, Rohit Sharma, Ajit Wadekar and Vijay Merchant.
Last month, he also became only the second Indian player after Tamil Nadu’s WV Raman to follow up a first-class triple hundred with a double-ton. Raman had achieved the feat with scores of 313 and 200 not out in 1989.
Thus, it can be said that Sarfaraz is having a gorgeous Ranji Season, leading his Mumbai team from the front in this season.
