Saurav Ganguly set to replace Anil Kumble in the ICC panel?
Anil Kumble, the coach of the Indian national team might just be on his way out of the ICC panel.
Having failed to make it to the ongoing gathering in Scotland of the ICC, Anil Kumble expressed regret over missing out on the gathering this week and it has now emerged that his place in the ICC panel is in danger.
Him missing the gathering has now seen the meet’s agenda turn towards finding a replacement for the Indian coach who may not be an active member anymore.
And it is understood that the same has been discussed at the annual conference of the International Cricket Council in Edinburgh.
Though it is not necessary for Kumble to step down from the post immediately, his post as the Indian coach will not allow him to participate in the ICC meetings and this has seen the ICC panel ponder about his replacement.
It was revealed that Saurav Ganguly, who was a part of the Cricket Advisory Committee that appointed Kumble as the head coach may well land his place in the ICC.
The discussions in Dharamsala, where Kumble was appointed, also reportedly saw discussions about the post in ICC and it is understood that Saurav Ganguly is the front-runner for the post.
The former Indian batsman also expressed his interest in the job and is open to taking it up in weeks to come.
Also acting as the Chairman of the technical committee of the BCCI, Saurav Ganguly, though is favorites to land the post among the Indian contingent, the post is actually filled by a member who is selected by the ICC and we will have to wait and see if Ganguly will be able to land the job.
He will be a natural successor for Kumble and has a lot of experience in administration of the game as well and will surely help improve the conditions of the sport in the nation if he replaces Kumble.
However, neither BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke, currently in Edinburgh, nor Ganguly, responded to queries on the topic.
The panel meets just the once every year but the chairman is a member of the ICC’s Chief Executives Committee (CEC) which meets four times a year.
In the past, the likes of Sunil Gavaskar were given the post by the ICC and though Kumble is yet to step down from the post, Ganguly seems all but set to replace him in the ICC panel.
It will be a dream come true for all Indian cricket fans of the previous decade as all the coaches and administrative positions will be held by former players who fought it out for the team on the field.
