Legendary Australian cricketer Ian Chappell believes scrapping toss won’t save the fate of Test fold instead good cricketing skills can save this dying traditional format.
Meanwhile, the world governing body, International Cricket Council (ICC) recently flagged the idea of scrapping the toss. The Dubai-based board made a commitment to take a call.
Since then, it has garnered a lot of importance among the cricketing fraternity.
However, Chappell feels that administrators have failed to keep an even contest between bat and ball. He cited that striking a balance with bat and ball is the main task of the administrators.
“One of the most important tasks for cricket administrators – which they’ve failed dismally – is to maintain a reasonably even balance between bat and ball,” he wrote in Hindustan Times.
Ian Chappell also urged to strike a balance between different formats of the game. He feels this will help young cricketers develop the required skill set to perform in all formats.
Recently, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis also batted for the scrapping of toss ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. Chappell believes just scrapping the toss is not an answer. Instead, Chappell backed a well-balanced attack and batsmen, who has the technique to bat in all conditions.
“Scrapping the toss is not the answer to thwart the under-hand practise of pitches being specially prepared to suit the home team. Any captain making such a complaint should consider that the best way to ensure fair pitch conditions is to choose a well-balanced attack, And select batsmen with the technique and ability to succeed under all conditions,” he concluded.
