Shahid Afridi Blames Politicians, Media For Putting Pakistan’s Image At Stake 1

Pakistan former skipper Shahid Afridi has voiced his opinion on the micro-blogging site Twitter while requesting the country’s media fraternity to avoid giving a space to those politicians, who are trying to malign the name of Pakistan itself.

In a series of tweets posted in Urdu on the official Twitter handle, Afridi stated the politics has been seen as a tool of ‘assassination’ to hit at each other’s character which according to him is a threat for future generations while urging the people to not cross the limits by getting carried away.

“We are bound to uphold and exercise restraint and think about our generations of future,” Afridi wrote on Twitter.

Interestingly, Afridi’s tweets came to fore after Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaaf’s ousted member Ayesha Gulali levelled serious allegations of sexual harassment against PTI chief and former Pakistan World Cup winning captain Imran Khan.

The former Men in Green all-rounder further requested the people to stay united while adding it’s their duty work to maintain uprightness.

“We are supposed to protect the sanctity and honour of Pakistan, it is basically responsibility on all of us,” Afridi added.

The Peshawar-born 37-year-old Afridi, who is further known for making bold statements, revealed the people who’re indulged in the mudslinging owing to the turbulent situation in Pakistan are the enemies at the first instance.

“However, we have become a laughing stock across the globe, as the situation is worsening day-by-day,” Afridi maintained.

Afridi has announced his international retirement in February 2017, as he is busy with the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF), and concurrently playing for English County side Hampshire in the NatWest Twenty20 Blast.

Afridi has made his international appearance in 1996, as he went on to feature in 398 One-day Internationals, 98 Twenty20 Internationals and 27 Tests for Pakistan.

The hard-hitting sensation registered 8,064 runs in 50-over format and 1,716 runs in 48 innings of five-day format at the average of 36.51 which interestingly is higher than his ODI average.

The wily customer with the ball, leg-spinner Afridi bagged 395 wickets in ODIs, 97 in 20-over format and 48 in longer format.
