Shahid Afridi To Lead Cricket Stars For Qatar National Day Celebration Match
In a bid to celebrate the National Day of Qatar, star cricketers across the globe will be participating in a 50-over match and a Twenty20 game, which is scheduled on December 16 in Doha.
Chief Executive Officer of Pro Events, Sajjad Hussain Choudhry has been on the forefront in bringing the cricketers to Qatar while playing his active role in cricket, to groom young cricketers at the grass-root level.
“These international stars, by sharing the dressing room and playing with them will guide the local players, who can gain experience and become better cricketers,” Choudhry said, whose vision is to make cricket No.1 sport in the country.
In partnership with ProEvent, the International Cricket Association has confirmed former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi will lead the World Stars side.
“We are celebrating Qatar National Day for second consecutive year, under the patronage and full support of Ministry of Culture and Sports. I am thankful to the Qatar Government in their efforts to promote cricket in Qatar.” added Choudhry.
Pakistan star all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who is very famous in sub-continent, will be the major attraction in the much-awaited match between World XI and Qatar XI.
Afridi, the crowd puller, who has retired from Tests and One Day Internationals, appeared in 398 ODIs, 98 T20s and 27 Tests for Pakistan while spreading his career over 20 years.
Former England wicket-keeper Paul Nixon will be the coach of World Stars and former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail will do his duty as the team manager.
Qatar Stars will be mentored by former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal and fast bowler Mohammad Irfan.
With both exhibition games to be scheduled at the 12,000-capacity Asian Town Cricket Stadium, the One-day match will be played on 18th of December.
World XI includes Jerome Taylor and Kesrick Williams from West Indies, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Yusuf Pathan, Mohammad Kaif, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Farveez Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, Nawroz Mangal, Graham Onions and Mohammad Ashraful.
Before enjoying a gala dinner at Marsa Malaz Kempinski, the international cricketers will get together for a coaching session at the stadium.

Mohammad Ashraful from Bangaldesh and Nawroz Mangal from Afghanistan.
