Shane Warne Clears Air on Banning Ricky Ponting from IPL
Australian National Cricket Team legend Shane Warne took to the micro-blogging website Twitter—to slam the reports regarding him saying his former skipper Ricky Ponting, who serves Delhi Capitals (DC) should be banned from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Articles on me saying Punter should be banned from the IPL are simply not true – so stop the BS,” Warne revealed in a tweet.
The 44-year-old Ponting has weathered criticism from Warne during and after their Test careers.
Warner, who had been instrumental during his heydays for Australia reiterated that it’s impractical if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) won’t allow Ponting to coach Delhi side led by Shreyas Iyer.
He added if it has to be a decision then we’re bound to accept it.
Earlier, for the eleventh edition of the IPL, Delhi roped in Ponting as the chief coach.
“When asked, I said it would be a silly move from the BCCI to not allow him to coach Delhi because he’s assistant coach of Aust. But if that’s the decision – then he would have to accept it!” Warne added.
Pertinently, there has been some rollercoaster relationship between Warne and Ponting, but Warne has cleared his point through his latest Tweet.
Earlier, the Australia media carried a report where Warne reportedly said there’s a potential conflict of interest.
However, to clarify a point regarding the persons being affected by results varies from Board to Board and specifically, it’s bound to apply on the host nations in particular.
According to the Mumbai Mirror, the 49-year-old Warne reiterated it’s unfair. He somewhat rued the coach like Ravi Shastri can’t partake in the IPL. Also, added then he wouldn’t see Ponting in the list either.
“But on the first point, (and) this is not for me to say. But if the BCCI decides Ravi Shastri cannot be part of the IPL, then I don’t see how Ricky can be,” Mirror quoted Ponting.
While considering integrity, Warne believes it’s a threat for the domestic professional league.
In the first edition of the IPL, veteran Warne has led Jaipur-based franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR). Royals claimed the title in the inaugural edition of 2008.
Warne bagged 708 Test wickets in 145 Tests also featured in 194 ODIs between 1992 and 2007.
Between 1995 and 2012, the top-order batsman Ponting represented Australia in 375 ODIs, 168 Tests and 17 T20Is.
Here’s the tweet from Shane Warne following the reports of banning Ricky Ponting from IPL:
Articles on me saying Punter should be banned from the IPL are simply not true – so stop the BS. When asked, I said it would be a silly move from the BCCI to not allow him to coach Delhi because he’s ass coach of Aust. But if thats the decision – then he would have to accept it !
