Shane Warne had just finished a “ridiculous” diet before his death, the cricket legendary spinner’s manager James Erskine has revealed.
James Erksine said Shane Warne was essentially consuming only fluids for 14 days — a diet he has undertaken before — shortly before suffering a suspected heart attack in Thailand.

Police revealed Shane Warne had been suffering chest pains before he flew from Australia to Koh Samui(Thailand) and while James Erskine was not aware of that, he did explain the legendary leg-spinner had been on a two-week health kick.
“I didn’t know about that (Warne’s heart issue). I did know from Helen, his secretary, that he’d had a bit of a chest pain and also was sweating last week but I only found that later on after he’d died. I didn’t know that at the time,” Erskine said.
“He did go on these ridiculous sorts of diets and he just finished one, where he basically only ate fluids for 14 days and he’d done this three or four times. It was a bit … all or nothing.
“It was either white buns with butter and lasagne stuffed in the middle or he would be having black and green juices. I don’t know, he obviously smoked most of his life. I don’t know, I think it was just a massive heart attack. That’s what I think’s happened.”
Shane Warne posted on Instagram last Tuesday he wanted to return to his peak physical condition and shared an old photo of him training with his shirt off.
“Operation shred has started (10 days in) & the goal by July is to get back to this shape from a few years ago! Let’s go,” he wrote.
Shane Warne was in a constant, public battle with his weight and made headlines when he dropped 14kg and kept the weight off in 2020. Prior to that he had tipped the scales at 98kg and said at the time his ideal weight was 80kg The Spin King also lost 10kg when dating Liz Hurley, where the Hollywood star helped him reach 82kg.
Shane Warne had previously denied rumours he had received plastic surgery or was using drastic weight loss drugs. He used traditional Chinese medicines, having previously said after other weight loss programs he had enjoyed success with meal replacement shakes.
“I’ve been doing traditional Chinese medicine, I’ve been doing training and things like that,” Warne said.
“I’ve dropped 14kg, I’m trying to lose another three or four more to get down to 80kg but I haven’t had any work done to my head. I haven’t had, whatever they call it, fillers, injections and all that sort of stuff.”
Shane Warne was renowned during his playing days for eating snacks like baked beans and toasted cheese sandwiches, while Hawaiian pizza was another of his favourites.
Ian Healy Wasn’t Surprised By Shane Warne’s Untimely Death
Wicketkeeping legend and Shane Warne’s former teammate, Ian Healy, said on Saturday he wasn’t surprised by the leg-spinning great’s early death at 52 because of his lifestyle.
“An early passing didn’t surprise me for Warnie,” Healy said.
“He didn’t look after his body that well. He yo-yoed up and down. He didn’t put much sunscreen on. I thought it would have become skin issues for him over time, but not at 52. And he would have been full of beans right to the end, I bet.”
It was particularly difficult for Ian Healy — and the entire country — with Shane Warne’s death falling one day after cricket legend Rodney Marsh died of a heart attack at the age of 74.
“If you could take two cricket people out of our sport that were the most engaged and upbeat characters we had, they are gone within the space of a week,” Healy said.
“Both men (died) way too early. We needed yarns from these two, Rod and Warnie, for at least another 20 years.”
Shane Warne’s death was announced just 12 hours after world cricket lost Australia’s great wicket-keeper Rodney Marsh, who also died of cardiac arrest. In his last tweet, Shane Warne had paid tribute to the former Australia cricketer, who died at the age of 74.
Barely 12 hours before the news of Shane Warne’s death broke at 7 pm India time, he had tweeted his condolences mourning the death of another Aussie great, wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh. Now, on the same platform, friends and adversaries were tweeting in shock about Shane Warne’s death.
