Shane Warne To Coach Lords-Based Team In ”The Hundred” Competition

There comes the massive announcement from the upcoming competition ”The Hundred”. The all-time legendary cricketer Shane Warne was signed by the Lords-based team as their head coach for the tournament.  The team comprises of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Middlesex, Essex and Northamptonshire.

The 49-year-old former Australia spinner will take charge of the team from London for the new 100-ball format, eight-team competition, which starts next July. Former Australia women’s coach Lisa Keightley will take charge of the side that will play their home games at Lord’s in the women’s event.

Speaking of the role, Shane Warne believes that the success of 100-ball format would be similar to the Indian Premier League. He feels the innovation is the best form to evolve the game as much as possible.

“I always want to be ahead of the curve because cricket benefits from innovation and that were the case in 2008 with the IPL, when I was captain-coach of the Rajasthan Royals. I love the concept of The Hundred and it has grabbed my attention in the same way the IPL did,” Shane Warne said.

“We built a team from scratch with a diverse range of players from different backgrounds and ages and I can’t wait to build the same mix of players to entertain the fans who come down to Lord’s for The Hundred,” he quoted as per PTI.

Meanwhile, the managing director of The Hundred Sanjay quoted that having two legendary cricketers involving in the competition will certainly be a great asset for the tournament. He believes that the first edition is going to be a massive success.

“It’s great to announce the first of our women’s head coaches. And also, to welcome two legends of the game to the competition. Having two stars like Shane and Lisa involved is another big step forward for The Hundred and shows the excitement that the competition is generating across the world game,” Sanjay Patil said.

It will run by England and Wales Cricket Board. The first edition of ‘The Hundred’, a professional 100-ball cricket league, is scheduled for next year. The league will consist of eight city-based franchise teams, each of which will field both a men’s and women’s team.
