Shane Watson has been the major player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008. He started the IPL journey with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2008. He helped Royals to win the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league under his Shane Warne’s captaincy. Then he shifted his base to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Currently, he plays for Chennai Super Kings under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Watson didn’t pick Virat Kohli:
In a recent interview, the swashbuckling batsman was asked to name the best captain he has played under. It was a difficult task for the ex-Aussie player to select one best leader in the cricket world. So, he picked Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, Rahul Dravid, and Dhoni.
Ponting was the captain of the allrounder in the Australian team while Warne guided him in the Royals camp in 2008, the only season when the Royals won the coveted IPL title. Watson also played under Dravid for the Royals in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He was also the part of Virat Kohli-led RCB in 2016 and 2017 season.
Currently, Watson, who plays for CSK, has been retained ahead of the upcoming IPL 2020 edition. In the finals of 2018, he scored 117* runs to lead the yellow army to win their third IPL title. In 2019, he also scored 80 runs in the finals against Mumbai Indians (MI) but could not help his team to come home. Now, it will be interesting to see him in the 13th edition of the IPL.
In total, the attacking batsman has played 134 IPL matches and scored 3575 runs with the striking rate of 139.53. He has also struck four centuries and 19 half-centuries in IPL. His impeccable record has made him into one of the IPL’s best batsmen.
Watson was also crowned as the Player of the Tournament in 2008 and 2013. He is expected to deliver his best in the IPL 2020.
