The 25-year-old Sri Lankan right-arm pacer Shehan Madushanka has been detained by the Sri Lankan police for possessing heroin. According to the AFP report, a police official has confirmed this news on Monday (25th May).

According to the AFP, the official has stated that Shehan Madushanka, who has played only three limited-overs international matches for the Sri Lankan national cricket team, was detained with heroin in Pannala on last Sunday (24th May). That heroin was weighed just over two grams. While Sri Lanka is currently under coronavirus curfew, Madushanka was driving in a car with another person when they were stopped.

In result, a magistrate has remanded Madushanka in custody for two weeks.

Shehan Madushanka had a dream ODI debut with a hat-trick

Shehan Madushanka made his international debut during the final of the ODI tri-series in Bangladesh in January 2018 at Dhaka (against Bangladesh on 27th January 2018), where he also claimed a hat-trick in the last moment of that game. He completed that hat-trick after dismissing Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza, Rubel Hossain and Mahmudullah respectively. The right-arm fast-medium bowler finished that game with the bowling figures of 6.1-1-26-3.

Later, in the next month, Madushanka made T20I debut in that Bangladesh tour and played two T20Is where he managed to claim two wickets. During his second T20I at Sylhet, he sustained a hamstring injury after taking two early wickets. That injury forced him to get ruled out from the next home T20I tri-series (Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh), Nidahas Trophy 2018, and since then, he hasn’t returned to the national team.

While the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) awarded the national contract for the 2018/19 season to 33 players, Madushanka was one of them. He was one of the regular members during Sri Lankan Emerging team’s winning the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup 2018.

Madushanka has played 14 first-class matches, 19 List A games and 17 T20s where he has managed to take 20, 14 and 15 wickets respectively.
