Shikhar Dhawan Elated to Have Batting Partner in Rohit Sharma

In a bid to talk about opening pairs in the cricketing world, there have been many around who’ve had left an impact from time and again for being destructive at the behest. But, while looking at the contemporary pair of the familiar names which struck the mind has to be Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma from Team India. Dhawan is delighted to start the proceedings for the Men in Blue alongside his longtime batting partner, friend Rohit.

In such a contrast, the fans have expected a lot from their players. Dhawan believes it’s God’s grace that saw them reaping the rewards for the team in particular. While speaking about his partnership with Rohit, Dhawan has expressed gratitude by maintaining he is happy to contribute alongside Rohit for the team’s cause.

”I want to thank Maalik (God) that my opening partnership with Rohit (Sharma) is still going strong,” Dhawan told CricketNext.

With the time, Rohit and Dhawan have improved their game, and their understanding has yielded desired results for the Men in Blue led by Virat Kohli. The highlight of their partnership has been consistency to score runs under any circumstances.

“We have been performing consistently and both of us have performed well for the side. It feels good to know that we are counted among the top opening pairs in the world,” Dhawan added.

So much so, the duo went on to record 4000 ODI runs together, to become an overall fourth opening pair in the 50-over history.

Above all, in 2013, the duo started off opening the innings for the Men in Blue. Interestingly, the then Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side went on to lift the ICC Champions Trophy by thumping hosts by runs England in the grand finale at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Eventually, southpaw Dhawan has claimed the golden bat for being adjudged Man of the Series. He smashed 363 runs during the Champions Trophy.

The duo further went on to play a significant role for India and emerged as the obvious choice as openers in the coveted events for the national side. They subsequently went on to bag number of records irrespective of the conditions.

Dhawan further asserted the maturity had developed their game and they cherish their duty. While talking about the positives, Dhawan reiterated they’re technically sound which has further helped them to come good against the opponents.

“Both of our games have matured with time. The responsibility on our shoulders has also increased. We know how to go about an innings when to take the risk, when not to. We know the pattern of the team. Our strength is that technically also we are strong and game sense is also strong,” Dhawan added.

Over, the last six years, Rohit and Dhawan have been sensational which further allowed middle-order to settle down. They played an instrumental role in helping India to clinch major wins in away conditions as well. Dhawan believes the wealth of experience has further accounted for their success.

“Rohit has over 200 games now and I have played 125 ODIs, so that also counts a lot. In pressure situations, we don’t panic at all. This patience has come with time,” Dhawan concluded.

In the ODI cricket, Rohit and Dhawan have forged 14 hundred or plus partnerships for the Team India.
