The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed star opener, Shikhar Dhawan, to return home midway from the tour of Sri Lanka to be with his ailing mother.
With India having sealed the series by a 4-0 margin with a match still to go, BCCI hasn’t named any replacement for Dhawan. The swashbuckling southpaw was one of the top performers for the Men in Blue in both Tests and ODI’s. The southpaw only failed in the last two matches where couldn’t get to double digits.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced that Team India opener Mr. Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India tomorrow i.e. September 3rd to see his ailing mother,” said BCCI in their media release. “Mr. Dhawan’s mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment.”
The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided not to name any replacement for the 5th ODI and the only T20I, scheduled on September 3rd and 6th respectively in Colombo,” concluded BCCI. The Virat Kohli led Team India has been utterly ruthless in their approach in both Test and limited overs format.
The visitors annihilated the hosts by a 3-0 margin in the Test series and have followed it up with a 4-0 performance with a match still to go. If nothing dramatic happens we can easily predict that it will be a 5-0 outcome in favor of India. Sri Lanka will hope to restore some of their lost pride on 6th September when the two teams meet for a solitary T20I.
Meanwhile, Dhawan has been in a purple patch of late and has scored heaps of runs in this tour. He has missed out only in the last two ODI’s and barring that he has got India off to brilliant starts in both Tests and ODI’s. He will be looking to be by his mother’s side during his illness and return to the team for India’s upcoming assignment.
