India is currently playing the ODI series against the tough competitor, Australia. In the first ODI match, Shikhar Dhawan reached the new milestone. He became the fifth Indian cricketer to score 1000 runs against Australia in ODIs.
In first ODI match against Australia, Virat Kohli added both KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan in the playing XI. He sacrificed his place and sent KL Rahul to bat at no.3 after Rohit Sharma lost his wicket at 10. However, Dhawan and KL Rahul set a stable partnership.
Dhawan pulled some eye-soothing drives against the Australian speedsters and found his rhythm gradually to attain a special feat in the process. He struck nine fours and a maximum, scoring 74 runs in 91 balls. Now, he registered other records in his book of scoring 1000 runs against the Kangaroo in One Day Internationals.
Indians with 1,000 ODI runs vs Australia
1.Sachin Tendulkar (3,077 runs)
2.MS Dhoni (1,660 runs)
3.Rohit Sharma (2,047 runs)
4.Virat Kohli (1,743 runs)
5.Shikhar Dhawan (1,049 runs)

Selectors have a big responsibility after Shikhar Dhawan has returned to the form
Talking about the game, Virat Kohli’s decision to bat at No.4 has backfired him. After KL Rahul lost his wicket at 47 runs, Virat Kohli entered the field to give the stability as the set batsman Shikhar Dhawan also lost his wicket on 74 runs. Unfortunately, on the ball of Adam Zampa, Indian skipper gave the direct catch to the bowler which the leg-spinner grabbed properly. Kohli went back to the pavilion after scoring just 16 runs.
Now, it’s a big responsibility on the shoulder of the team management and selectors to select the appropriate candidate for the opening partner of Rohit Sharma. Seeing KL Rahul’s last performance, he deserves to be on the Indian side. If the strike rate is compared in T20I cricket, Rahul takes an edge over Shikhar Dhawan. But considering the last T20I performance of Shikhar Dhawan against Sri Lanka, he has put the selectors under difficulty. Now, it is the responsibility of Virat Kohli to observe the performance of both Rahul and Dhawan closely.
