Noted journalist and columnist Shobhaa De is once again in news albeit for wrong reasons just like she made headlines during the last year’s Rio Olympics when she targetted the Indian Olympians. And once again she has taken a dig at the prizes and rewards that are being showered on India’s women team for their stupendous performance in the recently-concluded World Cup
The Women in Blue had qualified for the main tournament in England after playing the qualifiers and not surprisingly most of the people had not given them even an outside chance of making it far in the tournament. But Mithali Raj & Co.proved the detractors wrong in the very first game by beating hosts England. They went on to defeat the likes of West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand and defending champions Australia to make it to the final.
India were also agonisingly close to winning the final against England but a dramatic collapse dashed their hopes as they lost the match by 9 runs after losing their last 7 wickets for just 28 runs. But despite the loss, everyone across the country has been mighty impressed with the ladies’ performance and rightly think that the ladies deserve the recognition and the rewards.
However, Shobhaa De has a different take on it. The media personality believes that showering the women with the prizes might harm their career. What was even worse was that she cited India’s men cricketers’ example to prove herself right.
“Oh Lord! Please protect our amazing women cricketers from crass commercialisation and greed that has ruined most of our Boys in Blue,” she tweeted.

As expected, her tweet did not go down too well with others as they did not waste any time in making their feeling clear.
Why should the women not benefit from their stardom?

Our cricketing boys aren't spoilt don't do this to them too.— Heman Namo હિમાંશુ જૈન (@HemanNamo) August 1, 2017
Translation: Men can define their own success, but not women. No, we can't have women be both good at cricket and rich.
