Shocking: Teenager killed over wide ball spat in Sri Lanka 1

In a tragic event in Sri Lanka, an youngster was assaulted to death after an on-field spat over a wide ball. The incident took place at Matugama town of the Western Province in Sri Lanka which has seen a 15-year old teenager die.

The 15-year old was severely injured by another 14-year old as the two went for physical violence after the spat over a wide ball. The Police reported that they are seven players playing the game on the field as an argument over a wide ball soon lead to violence which saw the 14-year old use a wooden club to assault the other.

The injured was immediately taken to the nearby Wettewa Hospital but he was announced dead. The culprit was taken into the custody by the police and was produced in the magistrate, confirmed a police official named Karunaratne.

It is also reported that the culprit is suffering from a couple of diseases but the extent of the disease are not reported.

Unfortunately, this is becoming a common occurrence in the sub continent as a similar incident was earlier reported in Northern India. It is a common thing in sub-continent as people play around neighborhoods. However, the passion for the game in subcontinent is leading to such tragic events as it is resulting in physical violence over minor debates.

Cricket is known as a gentleman’s game and let’s hope such incidents do not happen no matter how much passion they have for the game.
