The captain cool MS Dhoni on Thursday gave a rare account of his aggression on the field as he barged into the young left arm bowler from Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman.
On the 2nd ball of the 25th over, Rahman looked to have come in the way of the batsman while attempting a quick single. Dhoni who did not like what the bowler did, shoved into him before completing the single.
In this process, Dhoni injured the left arm pacer who had to be sent for treatment after the collision. This will have taken Dhoni into the hate list of many Bangladesh cricket fans.
The over was finished by Nasser Hossain but the gritty fast bowler was soon back on the field after a bit of treatment.
He came back in the 37th over and helped Bangladesh record a historic victory against the 2nd place Indian team. He picked a five wicket haul which included Raina, Jadeja and Ashwin. He helped his team to a 79 run victory in the first match of the series giving his team a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.
This incident was highly un-characteristic of MS Dhoni. He was never accused of any aggression on the field in his illustrious career.
Though it appeared that the bowler tried to get in his way, it was clear that Dhoni barged into him and pushed him with his shoulder which he need not have done. He did not try to move out of the way and shoulder charged the young bowler.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh players protested after the incident, the on field umpires only gave a word of caution to the skipper and it is to be seen if they report the incident to the match referee Andy Pycroft.
Dhoni soon after played a loose shot losing his wicket to Sakib and leaving India stuttering at 129/5. The pressure of the game may have got to him but the incident will have lost him thousands of fans all around the world.
