The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Saturday, April 15, 2023, confirmed the injured Indian cricketers Shreyas Iyer and Rajat Patidar will undergo surgery in the UK for their respective injuries and the expense for Patidar’s injury will be born by the board.
Rajat Patidar had suffered a heel injury and was rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before it was deemed that he couldn’t participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) and the decision was taken to send him for surgery. He is currently at home in Indore, waiting for his visa papers to fly to the UK for the treatment.
“Unfortunately, Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to an Achilles Heel injury. We wish Rajat a speedy recovery and will continue to support him during the process,” RCB said in a statement recently.
Patidar jumped into the limelight thanks to his whirlwind century for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the playoffs match of IPL 2022. He then followed it up with some stellar performances in domestic cricket.
Shreyas Iyer To Undergo Surgery Next Week In UK: BCCI
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who has been struggling with nerve issues and a bulging disc in his lower back, will undergo surgery in the UK next week, BCCI confirmed. He missed the New Zealand ODIs at home earlier this year and also missed the first two Tests of the Australia series.
He played the last two Tests but complained of back pain during the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad, where India had to field for almost 170 overs. Iyer was then referred to the NCA for evaluation and was suggested back surgery.
“Mr Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week. He will remain under the surgeon’s care for two weeks and will return to the NCA after that for rehabilitation,” the statement read.
