Shreyas Iyer, the Indian batter, is still having troubles with his back, despite having surgery in London recently, and is most likely to be unavailable for selection for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 tournament in September.
The right-hander from Mumbai had trouble with his back since the start of this year and had missed quite a few series including the New Zealand white-ball home series and had made his return to the Indian team for the last two Tests.
However, he complained of lower back pain when Australia batted for more than 100 overs in the Ahmedabad Test and he fielded at eh short-leg. Iyer didn’t come to bat when India’s turn came with the willow.
The Asia Cup 2023 schedule was released by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). From August 31 to September 17, the match will take place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The 13-match ODI tournament will feature India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal as participants.
The first four games in the tournament will be held in Pakistan, with the remaining games being held in Sri Lanka. Two groups are made up of six teams each. Group A is made up of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, while Group B is made up of India, Pakistan, and Nepal.
“Shreyas Iyer’s Back Is Still Giving Him Trouble”- Source
Iyer underwent back surgery in April in London after missing a fair bit of cricket due to the injury. He wasn’t named in the squads for the West Indies tour in July-August, which were announced on Friday.
Shreyas Iyer is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for his back recovery.
Both the Test and ODI squads for the forthcoming West Indies trip, which will take place between July and August, did not feature Shreyas Iyer. Through the Asia Cup 2023, the batter hoped to rejoin the national squad. Now, it appears the star batter won’t be ready for the competition in time.

“Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source told Times of India.
The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper also missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
