Shreyas Iyer Ready To Take Any Kind Of Responsibility In Batting

In a very short time, the 25-year-old Shreyas Iyer has impressed with his incredible batting skills and remarkable consistency. The right-handed batsman is ready to take any responsibility in batting.

Shreyas Iyer has earned his place in India after consistently performing in domestic cricket. He has showcased this same attitude in his early international career. The right-handed batsman made his international cricket debut in late 2017 and has played 11 ODIs where he has scored 469 runs with an incredible batting average of 52.11. While he has batted in nine ODI innings till the date, he has scored six half-centuries.

Moreover, in the last four ODIs, Iyer scored 50+ runs in every match. It is outstanding stats for a newcomer. If he is getting enough time, Iyer is hardly disappointing the cricket fans. These recent performances have helped to secure a spot for him in the limited-overs side.

In the last ODI at Visakhapatnam, Iyer played a smashing knock of 53 runs off just 32 balls (3 fours and 4 sixes). Talking about this batting performance, Shreyas Iyer credited his maturity and responsibility for the team.

He said ahead of the ODI series-decider against Windies at Cuttack, “I think that comes with maturity and responsibility. I was a flamboyant player when I started playing first-class cricket. I never used to take responsibility. I just used to back my instincts and go with the flow.

“Lately, I’ve realised that once you play at the highest level, you gotta take that maturity to another stage.

“You have to play according to the team demands. I feel that whatever the situation demands, you have got to play accordingly. I am happy with the way I played in the 2nd ODI.”

I am flexible that way in batting at any number – Shreyas Iyer

For a long time, the team management is searching the proper batsman for the no.4 batting position in limited-overs cricket. While Iyer has just started to show his consistency, the team management has sent him to the no.4 batting position in the last two ODIs and also has gotten very positive results. Shreyas Iyer has claimed that he is flexible for the batting role and can change his batting attitude according to the situation.

“I know that I can play in both flows. I can even play strokes and I can even nudge the ball and take single, so I know my game really well right now and I can play accordingly.”

Ricky Ponting is a very positive guy
