In 2014, Kaul’s guruji asked him to wear the bands which actually brought success in his career. He started performing drastically well after that experiment, and it came as a blessing for him. Now, it has become Kauls’ style statement, and he changes them according to the format of the game.

“There was no idea behind wearing the headband, but he guruji I believe in, he told me in 2014 that if possible wear some white band on your head. Then I said, I have never worn white-band, nor do I have long hair and I’m steadily losing it. So let it be, what is the requirement,” Siddarth Kaul told CricketAddictor.

“Then, he said, no wear it. It will be good. I started wearing it that year in domestic and took around 38 wickets in 6-7 matches, it was very lucky for me. I also started it in one day, and there also I picked 24-25 wickets that year. In a match against Hyderabad, Rayudu bhai (Ambati Rayudu) told me to remove it, then I was like okay and removed it because it was white-ball cricket, and must have distracted him.

“Then I kept on changing the colour of the band, according to the formats. So, this is what my guruji said, and it also later became a style, people used to recognise me as a head-band fast bowler,” he added.

Kaul came in the limelight after his impressive performance in the U-19 World Cup 2008. But injuries led his career to downfall. He made a powerful comeback in 2012 in domestic cricket and also got the deal from Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils in 2013. Then, the pacer’s fortune changed and became a regular feature in IPL.

In 2016, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but was benched for the whole season, but in 2017, he got the chance and became a bowling partner of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The fast bowler has been retained by the franchise for the impending 13th edition.

In 2018, he earned the call from the national side and has played three ODIs and T20Is and picked four wickets.
