Australian umpiring head Simon Taufel has decided to bid adieu to Cricket Australia. Simon was serving as the head of umpiring in the Australian board.
Fairfax Media reports that Taufel took an early leave in the previous week. Subsequently, he will not return to resume office as his contract expires on coming Friday.
Simon Taufel was best at making accurate decisions.
A Cricket Australia official has revealed that personal reasons are behind Taufel’s departure.
One umpiring source said he was “well known for his serious, precise, professional approach to match management issues” but there were suggestions he “has had difficulty carrying all key people forward with him”. There have also been suggestions funding for his area had been cut.
Meanwhile, Simon Taufel was one of the most successful and accurate umpires. Taufel officiated in his last match in the final of ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2012. Subsequently, he worked as ICC’s Umpire Performance and Training Manager until October 2015.
The Australian umpire reached great heights as an umpire in his career. Taufel won the ICC umpire of the year for the first five years of its inception from 2004 to 2008. Moreover, Taufel is the youngest umpire to receive the Bronze Bails award for umpiring in 100 One Dayers.
Interestingly, Simon Taufel made his umpiring debut when he stood in the match between Australia and Sri Lanka on 13 January 1999. Thus, Taufel made his first appearance as an umpire being only 27 years old.
Simon Taufel went on to do umpiring in 74 Test matches, where he began his journey as 29 years old. Furthermore, Taufel stood in 174 One Day Internationals and 34 T20 International matches.
