SL vs BAN 2017: Bangladesh Registers Historic Win Against Sri Lanka In 100th Test
Mar 19, 2017 at 6:55 PM
Bangladesh on Sunday defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets to register a historic win in their 100th Test match in Colombo and level the two-match series one all. This was also their first Test win against the hosts.
In the quest to script a remarkable run-chase, given the fifth day on a sub-continent track, Bangladesh did quite well after what reputation they had as a batting unit while hunting a target in fourth innings.
Already two down by the start of the fifth day, visitors had a mountain to climb, which they did, carefully. Tamim Iqbal did the major part of damage with his 125-ball 82, smashing seven fours and one six. Though looking at his dismissal, it looked like a more ambitious shot at that time, and surely it didn’t impress the coaching staff in the pavilion.
To provide some assistance Sabbir Rahman scored 41 runs but couldn’t persist further. Lower middle-order too had their share but noticeably the damage was already done. Sri Lanka could only manage to grab six wickets; Herath and Perera shared three each before the target was chased down successfully.
Now since the longest format is shared among the two, the limited-over series is due to begin from March 25 in Dambulla.
Brief Score:
Sri Lanka – 338 & 319, Bangladesh – 467, 191/6
