SL Vs IND, 2017 – 1st Test: India Clinchs Galle Test By 304 Runs Against Struggling Sri Lanka 1

Following the all-round performance at Galle International Stadium on Day 4, India registered a convincing win by 304 runs to lead the three-match series 1-0 against Sri Lanka, as Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin shared three wickets each in the second innings.

Ashwin conceded 65 runs in his 27 overs, where as Jadeja gave away 71 in 24.5 overs.

on the penultimate delivery of the 77th over, India wrapped the Test match when Lahiru Kumara, after opting for a wild slog miscued a shot and was caught by Mohammad Shami at mid-off on the bowling of Jadeja which saw players shaking hands before walking-off the ground.

Moreover, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav shared wicket apiece. The 35-year-old Dilruwan Perera, who was the top-scorer for Lanka in the first innings remained unbeaten on 21 off 50 deliveries.

The visitors restricted Lions on 245 for 8 in 76.5 overs, as Rangana Herath didn’t come to bat owing to the finger injury after Sri Lanka was already down to 10 men when Asela Gunaratne was ruled out during the match due to a hand injury.

For Sri Lanka, the top-scorer was left-handed batsman Dimuth Karunaratne, who missed out on his century by three runs, when he was cleaned up by Ravichandran Ashwin on 97 off 208 balls, as he collected nine boundaries while showing some resilience with the bat

In a bid to spend some quality time at the crease the host’s batsmen struggled once again in their backyard, as visitors’ bowlers had a different thing on an offer which saw two quick wickets piling up the miseries for Rangana Herath-led Sri Lanka.

At the score of 29, Sri Laka lost the second wicket when Test debutant Danushka Gunathilaka was caught by Cheteshwar Pujara on the bowling of Umesh Yadav.

The left-handed batsman Gunathilaka managed to score just two off eight deliveries.

However, for the third wicket, Kusal Mendis and opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne added 79 runs in order to extend their innings a bit.

The right-handed batsman Mendis was caught by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha on the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja after scoring 36 of 71 deliveries.

The former skipper Angelo Mathews (2 off 10) was undone cheaply when he was caught by Hardik Pandya on the bowling of left-arm orthodox spinner Jadeja.

Nirsohan Dickwella, who forged a partnership of 116 for the fifth wicket alongside Karunaratne was dismissed when Sri Lanka was 217.

Dickwella was caught by gloveman Wriddhiman Saha on the bowling of Ashwin, as the ball took the feather of a bat before settling into the gloves.

The 24-year-old Dickwella scored 67 off 94 deliveries. Nuwan Pradeep was caught by Kohli on the bowling of Ashwin for a duck after facing two deliveries.

In 3rd over, the hosts lost opener in the form of left-handed Upul Tharanga on the bowling of Mohammad Shami.

Tharanga was bowled by Shami when he was batting on run-a-ball 10 which further saw Sri Lanka 22 for one.

Earlier, coming to the bat Indian skipper Virat Kohli with Ajinkya Rahane added 51 runs for the fourth wicket to post 240 for three on board an in 53 overs, as the lead racked up to 549 before the declaration came.

India set the target of daunting 550 for the hosts in the first Test of the three-match series.

The batting prodigy Virat Kohli smashed his 17th Test century which further saw him as registering the tenth hundred as a skipper of Team India.

Interestingly, the match started 15 minutes earlier to the scheduled start after both the teams lost a time due to rain on day three.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 103 off 136 deliveries. He registered four boundaries and a six in his triple figure knock.

On the other side, Vice-captain Rahane was not out on 23 off 18 deliveries.
