India’s new batting sensation, Shubman Gill recently opened up about his century against Pakistan in ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand early this year.
Shubman was in great nick throughout the tournament doing the job with the bat. However, he scored a century when his team needed the most. As one would expect in any game involving Pakistan and India, the aggression from both sides was evident, and the U19 story was no different.
The knock changed Shubman’s career and thus earned him an Indian Premier League contract. IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders bought Shubman for Rs 1.8 crore.

“It is one of my best innings. Before that, I was a little nervous because we were playing Pakistan. They had a good bowling attack, and I was under a bit of pressure, and there was so much hype around the game,” Gill said.
Talking in detail about the match, the prolific run-scorer revealed about the sledging going on. Shubman also admitted their sledging motivated him a lot.
“We got off to a good start and the opposition was sledging. That pumped me up, and I also got involved. They just abused me (‘yeh Bangladesh ke bowlers nahi hai’), so I replied ‘hum bhi Pakistan ke batsmen nahi hai’. I got really motivated by that,” he said to Yahoo Cricket.

The U19 World Cup was underway when they mega auction took place. Previously, Rahul Dravid mentioned talking with the players and urging them to focus on the present.
“I was actually sleeping when people came and told me that I had been picked up by KKR. I was more focused on the U-19 World Cup rather than the auction because the Under-19 World Cup is a once in a lifetime thing,”Gill revealed.
Meanwhile, Gill recently signed a bat endorsement deal with CEAT. He also joined the league of Harmanpreet Kaur, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan.
