Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been a very crucial player for CSK in the IPL. He won them the final in 2018 scoring 117 runs for 51 balls. A hard-earned  80 runs by the Australian in the 2019 final against MI wasn’t enough for his side and they lost by a mere run.

He thinks his side has a big advantage in this edition of the IPL as they play in the UAE. The slow pitches in the UAE could be of big help to CSK thinks Shane Watson. The 39-year-old is ready for the tournament to begin and is confident about how to regain his skills.

Covid-19 pandemic has affected all lives, I’m lucky to be able to play in the IPL

Shane Watson told in an interview with TOI that he feels fortunate to be able to play in a tournament like IPL, after the heavy impact of Covid-19 on the world. He feels the CSK side is great this season with the right balance of experienced and young players.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all lives, and at this point I feel fortunate to be able to play in a high-profile tournament like the IPL. There is no doubt that it is going to be challenging. But having played in it for years now, I know how to regain my skills and be ready before the tournament starts. Fortunately for us, we have about three weeks of training in Dubai before the first game and it will definitely help us.”

“CSK’s chances are as good as all the other teams. Our team’s biggest plus has been the presence of experienced players and some exciting younger players. We have a terrific side led by MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming. With the kind of balance that our side possesses, I see no reason why we can’t have a terrific season ahead.” he added.

MS can go on and play into his 40s: Shane Watson on MS Dhoni

The Australian feels CSK captain MS Dhoni’s talent is evergreen and due to his hardwork, he can play in his 40s too.

MS still loves playing. He is an evergreen cricketer and it feels like he just doesn’t age. Look, with the kind of skills he has and the hard yards he puts in, MS can go on and play into his 40s. MS has been able to manage his body well. The way he is able to run consistently and showcase skills behind the stumps are just incredible. I am a big fan of MS and would want to see him continue playing whether it’s for CSK or internationally.

CSK Spinners will be able to capitalize on the slow pitches of UAE

Shane Watson believes CSK is going to take advantage of the slow pitches in the UAE because it will be better for their high-quality spinners to show their skills.

“The pitches are going to be on the slower side. We have some high-quality spinners in our side and we should be able to capitalize.”

Watson said he would miss the fans in the stadium, but knows they will be supporting them from their homes.

“There is no doubt that the Yellow Army will be supporting us from far as they always do. It’s going to be a different experience and I will miss the rush that the crowds in Chennai always gave me. Having said that, we are playing for high stakes as the IPL is the best T20 tournament in the world and we have to quickly adapt.”

CSK will leave for UAE on 22nd of August and have a training camp scheduled in their base from 15th of August. The IPL is scheduled to begin from September 19 to November 10.
