Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels that the England youngster Harry Brook’s poor form in the IPL 2023, could be the reason behind his exclusion from England’s provisional ODI World Cup Squad. The 24-year-old was not part of the England squad as he was dropped from the squad in favour of Ben Stokes.
Harry Brook has shown the world his ability in International cricket in his limited international appearances, as the youngster can be a versatile batter in England’s batting in the middle overs of the game. Many believe that the right-handed batter’s underwhelming IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in India could be the reason behind his non-selection in the team.
Shedding light on the exclusion of Harry Brook from the England side, Aakash Chopra reckons that the struggles of the youngster in the IPL 2023, could be the reason behind his omission from the team and highlighted his poor form in the cash-rich league, where he failed to get ongoing apart from a lone century against KKR in the edition of the IPL.
“Harry Brook’s name is not there although there were a lot of speculations that he will eventually make it as he is too good a player to miss out. He is an amazing player and hits a lot of sixes, but is not part of this squad. Does it have anything to do with his struggle in the IPL?”

“He scored a century in Kolkata but other than that, he was finding it extremely difficult to reach double digits as well. He batted up the order at times and down the order on other occasions but his bat didn’t fire properly. So could that be the reason? We don’t know,” Aakash Chopra said.
Harry Brook has been a sensational performer for England in all three formats since his debut against the West Indies in 2022 and could be the trump card in England’s title defence given his capability to take the game away from the opponents in a short period but was overlooked in the team for the World Cup in India.
So Harry Brook Might Still Reach There – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra believes that Harry Brook still has a chance to make it into the England squad for the marquee event in India as the team can still change their squad until September 28th and added that even Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen urged for inclusion in the World Cup squad.

“The provisional squad can be changed till the 28th of September. So he might still reach there. Michael Vaughan believed he would reach there. I think Kevin Pietersen also said that he will definitely be there but Harry Brook at this point in time is missing out,” Aakash Chopra added.
Brook was impressive for England in his short cricketing career in both white ball and red ball cricket including a brilliant T20 series against New Zealand on home soil. The batter is expected to be a big part of the future of England cricket and can be a valuable addition to the team going into the ODI World Cup in India
