Somerset county club is yet to decide on their overseas player, Cameron Bancroft.
Bancroft was banned by Cricket Australia for nine months for his involvement in Sandpaper Gate,
“The chief executive, captain, head coach and myself have met to ensure that we are all updated on the events from the weekend. I will be talking to Cricket Australia and Cameron in due course, as it is important for us to collate all the relevant information before considering our next steps,” Andy Hurry, Director of the club said in a statement.
He was signed by the club in December 2017 as an overseason player for the coming season. He was to land in England and play for the club soon.
However, a ban has now put his participation in doubt.
Although, he is clear to play county cricket the club will not decide it.
It is to be noted that BCCI did not allow participation of David Warner and Steven Smith in IPL as soon as they were banned.
Both the players were eligible to play in the T20 league.
It will be the decision of the county club whether to allow Bancroft’s participation in the season or not?
There are chances that he might represent the county in the coming season.
Reports have suggested that Smith will play county cricket for Surrey.
If he plays the county season, Warner might also follow suit to make most of the banned period.
They (Warner and Smith) are set to miss one year of international cricket and they utilize the time to play county cricket and Grade cricket (in Australia).
Both the players will be cleared to play just two months before World Cup 2019, which starts on May 30 in England.
Australia will have a new captain as Smith can’t lead the side for next 24 months.
On the other hand, Warner will not be considered for captaincy post in future.
Bancroft can also be considered for captaincy post after two months.
The three players might appeal against the ban before Cricket Australia.
