Former Indian National Cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly has backed Ambati Rayudu to be in the plane to England for the ICC World Cup 2019 following his excellent knock in Wellington against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Rayudu batted brilliantly in the fifth ODI bailing his side out after India lost their first four wickets in 18 runs. The batsman has blown hot and cold in the series and has struggled to show consistency. However, Ambati Rayudu’s responsible knock in Wellington has earned praise from one and sundry. He shared a crucial 98-run stand with Vijay Shankar for the 5th wicket before adding another 74 runs for the 6th wicket with Kedar Jadhav. It was his innings that proved to be the difference between the two sides as the visitors were able to win the match by 35 runs and clinch the series 4-1.
Following his knock, Sourav Ganguly seemed confident about Rayudu’s place in the World Cup team. He also noted that batsman would score runs in England despite having a poor record against top teams. In addition to, Ganguly this is the side which will go to the showpiece event and will be a tough side to beat.
“Rayudu played well. He fizzled out in the middle but has played well overall and I think he will go to the WC and he will play in India after this and he will score runs and go to the WC. This is a settled team and the 14-15 core of the team is settled and I hope all these players are fit come the World Cup and this team will be a strong team,” Ganguly said to India TV.
