Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has called for a shake up in India’s spin bowling department after R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadejahad a disappointing tour of New Zealand.

Ganguly was also of the opinion that Pragyan Ojha should be recalled to the squad. ”I’m highly surprised at Ojha’s exclusion. He has the ability to take five wickets. If you see his career, he got five wickets in Mumbai in the first day, in the same conditions where Ashwin got three. He has got the variety to take wickets.”

Ojha was dropped from the Indian team even after picking up a 5-wicket haul against the West Indies in Mumbai on the occasion of Sachin Tendulkar‘s last test match.

His former prodigy Harbhajan Singh also got some support from his former captain. “We also need to bring back Harbhajan Singh, he has good record overseas. Both of them are a must especially in Test cricket.”

Sourav also recognised the spin department as India’s weakness and the reason for India’s continued overseas players : “I don’t think pacers are a reason for India’s defeat. But it’s our spin department where we’re lacking. All big teams have great spinners, be it Muttiah Muralitharan or Graeme Swann. MS Dhoni has to think about his spin department. Jadeja has no variation,” he added.

Often hailed as India’s most dynamic and fearless captain, Ganguly had a parting word for skipper MS Dhoni. “I don’t think pacers are a reason for India’s defeat. But it’s our spin department where we’re lacking. All big teams have great spinners, be it Muttiah Muralitharan or Graeme Swann. Dhoni has to think about his spin department. Jadeja has no variation,” he opined.
