Sourav Ganguly, BCCI president reserved the ultimate praise for the youngster SRH pace sensation Umran Malik, who has been one of the finds of the 15th season of the cash-rich league. BCCI announced an 18-man squad for the five-match home series against South Africa on Sunday night and there was one selection that grabbed most of the headlines. Umran Malik earned his maiden India call-up.

The 22-year-old star has been the cynosure throughout the ongoing 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) and following his impressive show, veteran cricketers, impressed with his performance, have all backed him for a spot in the Indian team. Reacting to the news, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly reserved the ultimate praise for the youngster.

Sourav Ganguly Reckons Umran Malik’s Future Is In His Hands And Is Sure That He Will Be Around For A Long Time

Sunrisers Hyderabad pace sensation Umran Malik has been one of the finds of the 15th season of the cash-rich league. He has impressed the selectors not just with his raw pace, clocking consistently over 150 kph, but also with his wicket-taking abilities.

In 14 games this season, he has picked 22 wickets for SRH at a strike rate of just 13.57 and an economy rate of 9.03. Umran Malik, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s leading wicket-taker this season had picked 22 scalps from 14 IPL 2022 games averaging an impressive 20.18 with a best of 5/25.

Speaking on the sidelines of a promotional event on Tuesday, the former India captain Sourav Ganguly was full of praise for Umran Malik: “His future is in his hands. If he stays fit and bowls at this pace, I’m sure he will be around for a long time,” he said.

The South Africa T20I series will begin on June 9 in New Delhi and will be a five-match affair. This T20I series will be followed by a two-match contest in Ireland, a three-match series in England, and a rescheduled fifth Test in July.

Sourav Ganguly also named three other batters and four bowlers who have impressed him the most in this IPL 2022.

“Many have played well in this IPL. Tilak (Varma) has done well for MI. Rahul (Tripathi) for Sunrisers, Tewatia for GT. We have seen many emerging fast bowlers like Malik, Mohsin Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan… It’s a place where talent gets exposure,” Sourav Ganguly added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s pace sensation Umran Malik and Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep Singh have been named in India’s 18-member squad for the five home T20Is against South Africa, starting on June 9.

Mumbai Indians’ Tilak Varma scored a total of 397 runs in the 14 IPL 2022 matches this season. He averages 36.09 with a strike rate of 131.02. In only eight matches he played this season, Lucknow’s Mohsin Khan has picked up 13 wickets. He has been way more economical than other pacers as well with an average economy of 5.93.

With best figures of 4/16, Mohsin Khan had a dream debut season. SRH’s Rahul Tripathi scored 413 runs at an average of 37.55 and a strike rate of 158.24 in 14 IPL 2022 games. He hit 3 fifties, the best of which was 76. Avesh Khan picked 17 scalps in 11 IPL 2022 games averaging an impressive 18.35 at 7.86 RPO.

Avesh Khan is the leading Lucknow Supergiants wicket-taker this season. Gujarat Titans’ Rahul Tewatia has scored 217 runs so far in 15 IPL 2022 games averaging 31 at a strike rate of 147.62 with a best of unbeaten 43.
