Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the new selection panel will select India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. Meanwhile, on Wednesday (4th March), Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will take the interviews of five shortlisted candidates.

For the first time since CAC formation, it’s member Madan Lal, Rudra Pratap Singh and Sulakshana Naik met each other on Tuesday, for a meeting that was also attended by Ganguly.

The meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Along with Ganguly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Indian Premier League’s (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel also attended the high-profile meeting.

While speaking to media, Ganguly ensured that the new selection panel will pick the squad for the upcoming series which will be played from 12th March.

“New selection panel will pick the team for the South Africa series”, Ganguly said.

Shortlisted candidates for new selection panel:

The five shortlisted candidates are Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Sunil Joshi, Venkatesh Prasad, Harvinder Singh, and Rajesh Chauhan. Interestingly, Ajit Agarkar‘s name is not on the list which has surprised many.

The two posts which will be filled are the one of chairman M.S.K. Prasad (south zone) and Gagan Khoda (central zone). Well, according to the new rule of BCCI, the selection of selectors doesn’t depend on zones but the names which have been shortlisted reflect that somewhere this criterion is considered.

As  Joshi, Prasad and Sivaramakrishnan hail from the south zone, Harvinder and Chauhan have represented central zone during their playing days.

However, it’s still not confirmed that the vacant places will be filled on Wednesday but the procedure is likely to be completed by Friday.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team is coming home after ending a month-long tour of New Zealand where they played five-match ODI series, three-match ODI series, and two-match Test series.
