The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly came under fire after his tweet that he posted at India’s defeat in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup did not go down well with the majority of the Indian supporters. Ganguly’s received too many negative reactions. It is not every day that fans take a shot at the former India skipper.

During his heydays, Ganguly made India fearless and thanks to his incredible batting exploits and smart captaincy. However, he received immense criticism from all quarters for how he came up with a tweet after India women fell prey to Australia women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Meg Lanning won the toss and opted to bat first which turned out to a game-changer for the defending champions and hosts. She and her fellow opening batswoman Beth Mooney set the foundation for a big score by adding as many as 103 runs for the first wicket in less than 12 overs.

Healy chipped in with 75 off just 39 balls while Mooney remained not out and scored 78 to make sure that the hosts put up a mammoth total of 184 for the loss of four wickets.

In response, the unbeaten Indian side was outplayed by Australia women as the hosts bundled out the visitors for just 99. Their in-form batter Shafali Verma was dismissed by Megan Schutt in the very first over of the chase and since then, India never really looked like recovering from thereon.

Megan was the best bowler for Australia as she accounted for four dismissals in the all-important final. Alyssa was the Player of the Match as she top-scored for the team with 39-ball 75 on the back of seven fours and five sixes.

After the game, BCCI chief Ganguly took to Twitter — to encourage the players and appreciated their journey in the tournament. Much to everyone’s surprise, he tagged BCCI secretary Jay Shah in the tweet instead of tagging BCCI Women and the fans vented out frustration by targeting Ganguly.

“Well done the Women’s team @bcci @JayShah.. Two back to back World Cup finals .. but we lost .. u we’re super .. we will get there someday .. love the team and players,” Ganguly tweeted.

Ganguly’s tweet failed to live up to the expectations as Australia completely outplayed India. Here are some of the negative reactions to Ganguly’s tweet:
