Sourav Ganguly Lacks Transparency In Ticket Distribution: Biswarup Dey

Former Indian captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly was accused by former CAB treasurer Biswarup Dey for the discrepancy in ticket allocation during the third and final One-day International match on January 22 between India and England at Eden Gardens.

“I am very surprised that after rendering services to CAB in different capacities for the past several years, not a single ticket was given to me,” Biswarup said.

After the fresh outburst, Biswarup alleged that Ganguly denied him the quota of allotted tickets while terming the move ‘unethical’.

However, 44-year-old Ganguly denied the allegations by terming ‘baseless’ before stating Dey always takes around 300 complimentary tickets.

“He always takes about 200 to 300 tickets from me, so his allegations are baseless. I don’t want to comment further,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

While talking to media gathering, Biswarup stated former batsman Ganguly and former Board of Control for Cricket in India’s joint secretary and CAB trustee Gautam Dasgupta are lacking the ‘transparency’ in ticket distribution.

Biswarup has cited the Lodha Committee’s report in a letter to Ganguly over the transparency in administration on ticket distribution during the games.

“Lodha in his recommendation stated that the distribution of tickets for International/IPL matches should have transparency,” Biswarup wrote in his letter to Ganguly.

Biswarup, who had completed the nine years in CAB had to step down following the Supreme Court-led Lodha Committee tenure restrictions.

“In my case, the transparency of distribution of tickets is a question to CAB… I request you to kindly intervene in the matter and resolve the issue,” the letter added.

Biswarup has urged in a letter to give him a reasonable answer in a week’s time before declaring himself as the victim of Apex body-led Lodha Panel recommendation which according to him does not apply on Gautam, the chairman of the Board of Trustees.

“He’s well past 70 years and has had nine years in tenure… How come he’s still continuing?” he questioned.

In his response, Gautam said: “it seems he [Biswarup] does not know my age. As per the list is given by him, Dey’s name was not mentioned along with two more office bearers.”

According to Gautam, the ticket allocation was looked after by Ganguly himself.

“It was purely president’s call. Ticket distribution was looked after by the President,” Gautam concluded.
