Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President and former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday, has lodged a police complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station in Kolkata, following a death threat through an anonymous letter.
The left-handed batsman Ganguly was warned in the letter for not attending a University felicitation programme in Midnapore district.
“We are looking into the matter. We are checking whether it’s a genuine or fake letter. Our officers are examining the letter,” a senior police official was quoted as saying by PTI.
According to new reports, the death threat letter was dispatched to his Behala residence on January 7.
On January 9, the cricket stalwart Ganguly has confirmed to the reporters about receiving a death threat.
Earlier, the reports also suggested the letter was addressed to his mother Nirupa.
“Your son is hereby warned not to attend the programme. If he dares to come here, you will not see him again,” anonymous letter was quoted as saying by PTI.
On January 19, Ganguly was expected to be at the function that was jointly organised by the District Sports Association (DSA) and Vidyasagar University.
“Yes I have received the letter on January 7 and I have informed this to the police and the organisers,” Ganguly earlier stated.
