Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni are the two former Indian captains who have cherished most success. Therefore, the comparison between their leadership never dies. MS Dhoni has given the most number of ICC trophies to the team while Sourav Ganguly has built the team after the crisis. But Parthiv Patel has voted for Ganguly over Dhoni for the captaincy.
The wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni stepped down from the limited-overs captaincy in early 2017 after handing over the legacy to current Indian captain Virat Kohli. His instinctive decisions helped India to bring three ICC trophies — ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Also, He became the first captain to have the three different ICC trophies.

On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly is applauded to rebuild the team when it was surrounding by match-fixing allegations. Sachin Tendulkar had resigned after the poor outing under his leadership but Ganguly rose as the saviour. He gave chances to several youngsters, including MS Dhoni, and built the team which won matches abroad. Team India set up itself as a strong competitor under his guidance.
Parthiv Patel heaps praise on Sourav Ganguly:

The wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who has served for India in all formats, has said that the comparison between Ganguly and Dhoni is obvious.
“The competition is valid between the two captains. One captain has a lot of trophies while the other captain has built the team. When Sourav Ganguly became the captain after 2000, Indian cricket was going through a difficult time,” Parthiv was quoted as saying in Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
However, Parthiv reckons Ganguly’s contributions are bigger than World Cup-winning captain Dhoni. He also applauded the prince of Kolkata for taking the team through to the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 where they lost to Australia at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
“From there he built a team that won abroad, not that we are not winning earlier, but we won big Test matches abroad like Headingly, in Australia and then went to Pakistan and won the Test series,” he stated.
“If you talk about the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, no one was thinking that the Indian team will reach the final. In my opinion, if I have to cast my vote it would be for Dada because he built a team from scratch,” Parthiv added.
A few days ago, Gautam Gambhir also said that Sourav Ganguly produced the quality players to Dhoni which helped him to win trophies.
