Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said that, R Ashwin will play an important role in the upcoming test series against West Indies starting from July 21st.
The Indian team will be playing under a new coach Anil Kumble who was selected as the head coach.
“I think Ashwin will be the key in West Indies,” Ganguly, who turned 44 today, said at his residence.
“They are looking stronger and in the middle of a fine form. But I think India have the side to beat them. I wish luck to (Virat) Kohli and (Anil) Kumble,” Ganguly added.
The Indian team will start their tour with two warm-up matches from 9th-16th July. It will be then followed by four test matches from July 21- August 22nd.
West Indies reached the finals of tri-series which included Australia and South Africa.
Ashwin has been the go-to bowler for the Indian team. Ashwin was the man of the series in the series against Sri Lanka and also the home series against South Africa.
Ashwin did not have a great ICC World T20 and also failed to pick wickets in the IPL 9.
West Indies despite having problems in test matches, they look a strong outfit.
Ashwin has proven time and time again that he is a match winner. He has taken 176 wickets in 32 matches. His ability to deceive the batsmen makes him a dangerous bowler.
Ashwin will play an important role in not only picking wickets but also supporting the other bowlers.
