Sourav Ganguly Set To Become Next BCCI President

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is likely to become the next president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sourav Ganguly is currently the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). In last month, he has retained his position as the CAB president after there was no opposition.

Ganguly is now reportedly to become the next BCCI President during the upcoming BCCI AGM on 23rd October. While Monday (14th October) is the last day to file the nomination for the BCCI President post, Ganguly is likely to take up this role unanimously without any fight.

Sourav Ganguly is around ten months away from the mandatory cooling-off period

However, Sourav Ganguly can stay as the BCCI President only till July 2020. After that, the former Indian captain will have to face the mandatory three-year cooling-off period.

Ganguly has already completed five years in CAB administration while a candidate can stay in the Indian cricket administration for the maximum six consecutive years. After the consecutive six years of administration, the candidate has to face a mandatory three-year cooling-off period before returning to the administration post.

In the meantime, the 66-year-old Brijesh Patel is likely to become the next Chairman of Indian Premier League (IPL). Brijesh Patel played for India in 21 Tests and 10 ODIs from 1974 to 1979.

Earlier, Patel was favourite to become the next BCCI President as the former BCCI President N Srinivasan backs him. However, in the last moment, Sourav Ganguly has dramatically risen in this contention.

While Amit Shah was the President of GCA, Jay Shah was the joint secretary of GCA.

Also, Arun Dhumal has been expected to become the next BCCI treasurer. Dhumal is the brother of former BCCI President Anurag Thakur. Jayesh George, the President of Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), is likely to take up the joint secretary role.
