South Africa launched the series campaign with a 52 run win over Bangladesh in the first T20 at Mirpur, Sher-e-Bangala National Stadium. In reply to South Africa’s 148, Bangladesh finished with the lowest t20 total of 96 at home. South Africa haunted Bangladesh with the same weapon what Bangladesh deployed against them, the spin.
South Africa posted 149 run target to Bangladesh. Not very mammoth, but on a turning pitch where ball was coming late to the bat was enough for South Africa to humiliate Bangladesh.
Commencing the chase, Bangladesh lost their first two wickets in first two over. Coincidentally, Bangladesh like South Africa, lost their first wicket on the last ball of first over in the form of Tamim Iqbal.
Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim tried to give Bangladesh innings a momentum before the former fell to medium pacer David Weise and spinner JP Duminy accounted for Rahim.
Bangladesh never looked comfortable confronting South African spinners.
South Africa spinners, particularly JP Duminy was difficult for Bangladesh to play. He picked the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman, who tried to play a switch shot that was brilliantly caught by wicketkeeper de Kock.
Earlier, winning the toss South Africa captain AB de Villiers opted to bat first. Opening the innings with Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers was looking for a fresh start after the world cup. But, Bangladesh offspinner Arafat Sunny sent AB de Villiers to the dressing room in the last ball of the first over of the innings.
For Bangladesh, South Africa, who is quite weak in playing spin, was much tougher opponent for them, at least on the day. Their bowlers started their series campaign with positive note, kept South Africa’s momentum of run scoring in check. Quinton de Kock edged Nasir Hossain to Liton Das in the third over.
South Africa after an early blow, set the tone of their innings with the help of 61 balls 79 run innings of Faf du Plessis. He got good assistance from Rilee Rossouw who scored 31 runs off 21 balls with two four and two sixes.
Earlier, in the 13th over Shakib Al Hasan trapped David Miller lbw and in the 11th over Duminy was caught by Nasir Hossain off Arafat Sunny when the left-hander went for a lofted shot.
However, Shakib and Arafat Sunny posed some threat to South Africa on an uneven surface, but Faf du Plessis targeted other Bangladesh bowlers to help South Africa to notch up 148 runs in 20 over.
Later, Aaron Phangiso cleaned up the tail of Bangladesh, he picked up the wicket of Nassir Hossain . However, debutant T20 player Litton Das played some brave shot in order to revive Bangladesh innings with his 22 run innings before he was caught by de Villiers off Weise.
Twenty year old Kagiso Rabada picked up the wicket of Soumya Sarkar and Mashrafe Mortaza.
Mustafizur Rahman, who went wicket less for the first time in his career, was the last man to be bowled by Parnell.
